Turmeric or Luyang dilaw in Tagalog (Scientific name : Curcuma xanthorrhiza Naves, Curcuma domestica Valeton,
Jiang huang (Chin.)) also called Angay in Pampanga, Kalabaga, Kalawag, Kalauag,
Kinamboy, Kinamboi, Kulalo, Lampuyang in Bisaya, Pangar, Pangas (Pamp.), Kulyaw, Kunig (Ilk.), kunik (Ibn.), Lawag
(Sub.), Parak (Kuy.), Salampawyan, Salampauyan (Bag.), Yu-chin in Chinese.
Usually used as condiment, as curry powder and food
coloring. A good source of iron, calcium
and phosphorus. Fresh rhizome Juice used
as anthelmintic, used as antiseptic for wound by crushing it rhizome and apply
to wound. According to some study it is
believed to help therapeutics effects, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal,
antiviral, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory, and has an anticarcinogenic
effect. It is also use as powder paste,
ointment, oil, lotion and aromatic stimulant.
Flavonoid Curcumin (diferuloylmethane) is the active constituents,
various volatile oils, includes tumerone, zingiberone and atlantone.

How
to prepare:
As
ointment
1.
Wash the ginger
(unpeeled), and cut it to small size
2.
Measure half a glass of coconut
oil.
3.
Sauté in low fire for 5
minutes.
4.
Set aside, cool.
Apply
it to affected areas.
As
drink / tea
1.
Wash the ginger
(unpeeled), and cut it to small size

Measure 3 glass of water
and the washed ginger
3.
Boil for a few minutes.
4.
Set aside, cool and
strain.
You can
add water to lessen the taste if you want. Drink a glass at least 3x a day, or
more.
As
antiseptic
Crush the rhizome and apply it directly on the wound or swelling.
